The full form or meaning of the term ISKCON is the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The international society for Krishna consciousness is a religious organization and this organization belongs to the Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya.

ISKCON is a Hindu religious organization that has its own believes and values that are based on the Sanskrit scriptures Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavat Purana which is also called Srimad Bhagavatam.

These are highly believed and worshipped scriptures in the Hindu religion that teach the ultimate goal of all living beings.

These religious and spiritual scriptures the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam tells the ultimate living goal is to reawaken the love for God and here specifically referred to as Lord Krishna.

About ISKCON

  • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness was established in 1966. Bakti yoga tradition is followed by all the International Society for Krishna Consciousness members. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness was formed by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.   • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness members is not allowed to eat meat that includes fish and eggs.
  • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness members cannot have intoxicants
  • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness members cannot have illicit sex and in its strict manner not even between husband and wife if it’s not for the procreation of children.

As mentioned these four regulative principals of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness are based on the four legs or parts of the Dharma that are –

  • Daya which means Mercy
  • Tapas which means Self-control or sternness
  • Satyam which means Truthfulness
  • Sauce defines purity and hygiene in mind, body, and dealings.

  • The International Society for Krishna Consciousness aims to teach and encourage the Sankirtan movement which is the chanting of the holy name of the god together and it is described by the Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
