Thirukkurungudi venogram Sundaram started Madurai’s first bus service back in 1911 where he founded TVS group as a company in the transportation business that had a large fleet of trucks and buses under the name of Southern Roadways.
Thirukkurungudi vnegaram sundram began a company called TV Sundram Iyengar and Sons limited from there in 1911. This company was founded to operate the bus service in Madurai city. TV Sundram operated many buses and Lorries in the Southern Roadways Limited.
In 1978 the name TVS motor company limited was registered later. The name was changed for the production as well as for selling Motorcycles, three-wheelers and scooters etc. in India.
TVS launched TVS 50 as India’s first two-seater moped at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, India in 1980. In 1987 TVS made a joint venture of Sundara Clayton limited with the Japanese auto giant Suzuki motor corporation. Later the commercial production under this joint venture started in 1989 for motorcycles.
Hereafter company launched various models such as Suzuki Shaolin, Suzuki shogun, Suzuki supra, Suzuki samurai etc. as a TVS-SUZUKI venture. After separating with Suzuki the TVS Company renamed itself as a TVS motor in 2001.
